We die in a round shaped Prison
“Is it surprising that prisons resemble factories, school, barracks, hospitals, which all resemble prisons."
I want to respond to Foucault's Panopticism.
Though this idea was suggested in the early 1900s, however, it also applies nowadays. Today, "round prisons" still exist physically and ideally. Our society today is a huge panopticon. We live under surveillance and follow their rules and restrictions. Our individuality is forced to be depersonalized. We are regarded as objects that can be convinced, shaped, and taught. Our emotions are no longer significant. What matters is how we abide by disciplines and are bound by regulations.
For example, all public schools in China (primary school, middle school, or high school) are built in a panopticon style. Standing in the center of the ground floor, you can see all the classrooms and students who walk through the corridors. Even students who commit suicide will be gazed from others since falling down inward is the only choice.
Sometimes we can feel that we are not prominent in society. Foucault explained his. These invisible disciplines have influenced us. We are afraid of being punished and don't want to be exposed to surveillance. Therefore, our uniqueness and style frittered while we are disturbed by how to "survive" in this panopticon.
